What is a Eyewash station & Safety Shower?

An eyewash station and drench shower are emergency safety devices used in workplaces where employees may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, substances, or debris that could cause injury, especially to the eyes or skin. Required by OSHA and ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 in workplaces with chemical hazards.

An eyewash station is a device that provides a controlled flow of water to rinse the eyes in the event of exposure to harmful substances such as:

  • Chemical splashes

  • Dust or debris

  • Biological agents

A safety shower, is designed to quickly rinse the entire body of a person who has been exposed to hazardous chemicals or fire. The purpose is to wash off chemical spills, corrosive materials, or contaminants from the skin and clothing. The ANSI standard recommends a minimum flow of 20 gallons per minute for 15 minutes.
